The Atlanta Braves saw their amazing 14-game winning streak evaporate on Friday after a stunning 1-0 loss at the hands of the Chicago Cubs. The pair close out their three-game weekend set today as the Braves look to get back on track in their quest for an NL East title. With the Mets stumbling, there is an opening for Atlanta to overtake. But, they will have a tough road to victory today with Kyle Hendricks making the start.

Braves vs. Cubs Prediction and Pick

This could turn into an interesting pitcher's duel between Ian Anderson and Hendricks. Not that either of them is particularly good mind you. But they are both equally as bad if that makes sense. Hendricks enters this start at 2-5 with a 4.95 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 63 ⅔ innings. Anderson, meanwhile, sports a 4.81 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 63 ⅔ innings. Basically, they are having nearly identical seasons down to the inning count.

I’ll say that Hendricks is having a better go of it recently with an ERA of 3.60 in June. He hasn’t won a game since May 9, but he’s “only” given up four runs this month. But, Hendricks has also given up three or more runs in three of his last four starts.

While Hendricks is playing slightly better this month, Anderson has been objectively worse. His ERA this month is up to 6.19 with 11 runs allowed in his last16 innings of work. Thanks to the Braves scoring 13 runs in two of his three starts this month, Anderson managed a 2-1 record in three starts. But, the Braves won't score 13 runs every night which makes Anderson a huge liability on the hill.

It’s hard to like either team with the lack of success between these starters. Considering how well the Braves have been hitting overall, I like the over to hit in this series finale.

Pick: OVER 9 (-110)
