Braves vs. Cubs Prediction and Odds for Friday, June 17 (Atlanta's Win Streak In Jeopardy with Morton on Mound)
By Matt De Saro
The Atlanta Braves are red-hot as they prepare to kick off a three-game series at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs.
The Braves are on an amazing 14-game winning streak as they head into this weekend series. While very impressive, it’s worth noting the Braves last played the Diamondbacks, Rockies, A’s, Pirates, and Nationals. They are basically five of the worst teams in the league.
Even still, reeling off 14 straight wins is hard to do in this league, so can they keep this streak going tonight against the 4th place Cubs?

Braves vs. Cubs Prediction and Pick
With a 14-game winning streak, you’d expect this game to be a breeze to predict. Especially against a team with a losing record. However, there is a huge pitching mismatch in this game that makes Atlanta a tough nut to crack. Veteran righty Charlie Morton enters his 13th start of the year at 4-3 with a 5.67 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 60 ⅓ innings. He’s been even worse in June with a 6.55 ERA in 11 innings. You know things are bad when you are getting beat up by the Pirates, Rockies, and Diamondbacks as Morton did in his last three starts.
On the flip side, the Cubs’ are starting Keegan Thompson tonight who has been very good for this team. Aside from his last start that is where he lasted just ⅔ of an inning and gave up five runs to the Yankees. The game before that, the Orioles lit him up for seven runs in three innings. Needless to say, watching your ERA go from 1.58 to 3.67 in two games is never a good sign.
Despite Thompson's recent issues, of which there have been many, I think he’s still a safer bet than Morton. Morton has been consistently bad and I don’t expect him to ever get back on track at 38 years old.
Sorry, Charlie.
Pick: Cubs ML +152
