Braves vs. Diamondbacks Prediction and Odds for Wednesday, June 1 (Bumgarner's Struggles Give Braves Edge)
By Joe Summers
The Atlanta Braves and Arizona Diamondbacks wrap up a three-game series today at 3:40 PM EST with a doozy of a pitching matchup.
Kyle Wright will take on Madison Bumgarner as both squads try to keep rising in the National League standings. A former first-round pick, Wright is putting together a splendid season and showcasing the ability that made him the fifth overall selection in the 2017 MLB Draft. He has a 2.68 ERA to pair with a 4-3 record and has given up more than three runs just once this year.
Bumgarner is coming off his worst outing of the year, surrendering five runs to the Dodgers in a loss. He has a 6.00 ERA in his last three starts but still has a 3.20 ERA at home.
Can Bumgarner bounce back to give Arizona a home victory or will Wright and Atlanta pull off the road win?

Braves vs Diamondbacks Prediction and Pick
There were plenty of warning signs that Madison Bumgarner's incredible April was all smoke and mirrors. The former World Series MVP ranks in the sixth percentile in fastball velocity and 18th in hard hit percentage, and he gave up five home runs in his last two starts as a result.
Things won't get easier against a Braves lineup that averages the fifth-most home runs per game in MLB. Arizona has one of the best defenses in the sport, but it won't matter if the ball is flying over the fence. To make matters worse, Atlanta has the eighth-highest OPS against left-handed pitchers this month, sandwiched around the two teams that clobbered Bumgarner in those last two outings (Dodgers & Cubs).
On the other side, Kyle Wright has been a marvel of consistency for Atlanta. He has one poor start out of nine, but otherwise has always put the Braves in a position to win. Wright ranks in the 79th percentile in strikeout percentage and Arizona averages the second-most strikeouts per game in MLB, so I anticipate a lot of swings-and-misses.
With Bumgarner struggling and the Diamondbacks' bullpen remaining one of the worst in the league, I think Atlanta wins convincingly. Back the Braves on the run line and take a long look at their team total over, as well.
Pick: Braves -1.5 (-105)
