This is the biggest day in the NL East so far this season. I’m sure we will have some even more important games in September, but for now this is a massive doubleheader between the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets. They have split the first two of this five game series, so today could be a huge swing in either direction.

Game 2 of the doubleheader gives us a matchup of maybe the best No. 2 starters in the MLB. Max Scherzer and Max Fried are ace caliber pitchers. They both have great staffs behind them, but it's clear who is the top guy in each rotation.

Braves vs. Mets Prediction and Pick

These two pitchers have faced off before this season. On July 11, Max Fried went five innings at home and gave up two earned runs in the 4-1 loss. Scherzer was excellent that day, allowing one run and striking out nine while going seven innings.

I am so excited to see these two pitchers face off again, This series has been such a treat, and this is the main course. Tomorrow, when Spencer Strider and Jacob deGrom face off, that’s dessert. That’s a double decker chocolate cake that Cake Boss hand delivered from Hoboken to Citi Field.

Fried has a 2.58 ERA, a 10-3 record and 2.47 FIP. He doesn’t allow walks or anyone to barrel the ball up. He is in the top five percent of the league in walk rate and barrel rate.

Scherzer, on the other side, has a 7-2 record and 2.13 ERA. A 2.64 FIP to go along with a 90th percentile strikeout rate, and walk rate. However, his expected slugging percentage is in the 65th percentile.

I just can’t bet against either guy in a big game. They are both champions who know how to pitch in big spots. My advice is to sit back and enjoy.

Pick: UNDER 7.0 (-110)
