Braves vs. Mets Game 2 Prediction and Odds for Tuesday, May 3 (Bet New York as Home Underdogs)
By Reed Wallach
One of the best starting pitchers in baseball through just under a full month starts for the Atlanta Braves.
Atlanta's Kyle Wright has a big league best 1.13 ERA through 24 innings and a sterling 4-0 record. The Braves send out Wright in the second game of the team's doubleheader against the New York Mets on Tuesday as the team hopes to cut into the Mets NL East lead.
Here are the odds for the night cap from WynnBET Sportsbook:
Braves vs. Mets Odds, Run Line, Total
Run Line:
- Braves: -1.5 (+135)
- Mets: +1.5 (-165)
Moneyline:
- Braves: -118
- Mets: +108
Total: 7.5 (Over -115/Under -105)
Braves vs. Mets Prediction and Pick
This is setting up for a low scoring affair in the second game on Tuesday. Wright is the real story of this one, posting the best ERA in baseball, but backing it up with a nearly identical FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) meaning that he is not being bailed out by fielding behind him or some batted ball variance. He is also posting a career high in strikeouts per 9 innings, 12.8, through his first 4 starts.
Now, he faces the Mets, who have the best on-base percentage in all of baseball to start the year. It will help that the hosts have had a ton of success against Wright through his young career. In 4 starts against New York, he has allowed 13 runs in 16.1 innings.
On the other side, the Mets will send out lefty David Peterson. The southpaw may see his ERA tick up to 5.95 in 4 starts against the Braves, but he also punches out nearly 12 batters per 9 innings against them. Atlanta has been fine against left handed pitching, 11th in the bigs, and I believe that Peterson's ability to fan batters can be the difference in a game the team will have to lean on their starter given it's a day game.
With all that in mind, I'll take a shot on the Mets as small underdogs.
LEAN: Mets +108
