The New York Mets continue their assault on the NL East as the calendar turns to May. They did lose Game 1 of their current series against the Atlanta Braves. But, the Mets have yet to lose a series to a division rival this season. But, the Braves are the defending champions. However, Atlanta needs to get back into the groove after a dreadfully slow start to 2022.

The Braves started the year by losing two of their first three against the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds are so bad that they only won one more game all season up until now. That pretty much set the tone for the Braves in April. They are still below .500 and haven’t looked close to repeating last year’s triumph.

Braves vs. Mets Prediction and Pick

While the Braves have been a massive disappointment, the Mets have looked phenomenal so far this year.  A big reason for that is a team ERA of just 3.07 paired with a combined batting average of .257. Tylor Megill has been a big part of the team’s early success and gets his fifth start of the season on Wednesday.

Megill enters this division clash with a 1.93 ERA and 0.86 WHIP in 28 innings pitched. He blanked the Phillies on Friday over five innings while striking out five. Megill is one of five starting pitchers in the MLB with a perfect 4-0 record to start the year.

Sadly for the Braves, their starter, Ian Anderson, hasn’t had as much success this year. Anderson has given up at least two earned runs in three of his first four games and enters with a 4.66 ERA. His strikeout to walk ratio of 17;11 is a bit suspect and I don’t feel like I can trust him here.

Despite losing the opening game of this series on Monday, the Mets are a far better team top to bottom. New York should take the series finale on Wednesday behind Megill's arm.

Bet: Mets ML (-120)
