The Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals square off today at 2:15 PM EST in the third contest of a four-game set.

Adrian Houser is on the hill for Milwaukee and hopes to continue a fantastic end of May for the Brewers' pitching staff. They've allowed three or fewer runs in eight straight games as they're separating themselves from the pack in the NL Central.

St. Louis will turn to Matthew Liberatore for his second big-league start after giving up seven runs and four hits in 4.2 innings to the Pirates last week.

Can the 22-year-old keep Milwaukee's bats at bay or will Houser propel the visitors to victory?

Brewers vs Cardinals Prediction and Pick

This line is disrespectful and it's time to start giving Adrian Houser his flowers. He's got a sparkling 2.98 ERA, and his 3.14 FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) means his performance hasn't been a fluke.

Admittedly, Houser has been better at home than on the road. But he's coming off a three-hit, one-run gem against the Padres in San Diego and ranks in the 90th percentile in barrel percentage. He's only given up one home run all season as a result, but the biggest reason to back Houser is that the dude straight up owns St. Louis.

In Houser's last five starts against the Cardinals, he has a 0.60 ERA in 30.2 innings. He didn't give up more than a single run in any of those starts and hurled a complete-game shutout back in September.

Somehow, that guy is even money against a rookie who gave up seven hits and four runs to the Pirates last week? The same Pirates that average the fewest runs per game in the National League and hadn't scored more than three in any of their previous eight games going in? Those Pirates?

Yes, as a matter of fact. Liberatore gave up six runs in his last home start in the minors before getting called up, and Milwaukee should have their way. At the very least, Houser and the Brewers should be solid favorites.

Back Milwaukee to improve to 13-6 in their last 19 on the road. And please, let's show Houser some darned respect.

Pick: Brewers -1.5 (+155)
