On Friday, September 10th, the St. Louis Cardinals sat 3.5 games back of the second National League Wild Card spot at 71-69, 4-6 in their last 10 games, and had a negative run differential for the season of -24.

On Tuesday, September 28th, they won their 17th straight game to lock up the Wild Card.

The Cardinals aren't making a postseason run, they're making a full-on Usain Bolt dash into October.

Their turnaround this season has been nothing short of remarkable. Via MLB.com, the Cardinals playoff odds according to Fangraphs was at one point just 2.8%! The only other team which made the postseason with single-digit playoff odds was the 2019 Milwaukee Brewers at 5.6%.

For what it's worth, the Seattle Mariners have a shot at becoming the third team to do it if they continue to play well down the stretch. They host the Athletics tonight at Safeco Field as slight underdogs at -105 odds at WynnBET.

With the playoff spot, along with seeding pretty much locked up, the Cardinals can continue to chase history, or they can choose to give their veterans and key players some rest heading into the Wild Card game against either the Los Angeles Dodgers or San Francisco Giants.

Right now, the oddsmakers are looking at tonight's matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers as a complete toss-up, with both teams at -110 odds (bet $110 to win $100) on the money line at WynnBET Sportsbook. The total for tonight sits right at 8 runs, with the under slightly favored at -115.

Brewers vs. Cardinals Prediction and Pick

The Cardinals' miraculous run likely comes to a close after reaching the pinnacle of locking up the playoff spot. Even with a chance to inch closer to Major League history, it's hard for this not to feel like a let-down spot with nothing likely to change over the remaining portion of the schedule.

The Brewers start Adrian Houser (9-6, 3.34 ERA) against Miles Mikolas (2-2, 4.15 ERA) in St. Louis tonight. Houser has given up just 5 earned runs over his 25 innings pitched in September and will look to stay hot against the Cardinals. In his last appearance against them back on September 4th, Houser threw a complete game shutout, giving up just three hits and striking out seven.

Milwaukee also holds the NL's second best record on the road at 49-21 this year. Give me the Brew Crew on the money line as the Cardinals' fail to win a game for the first time in 19 days.

PREDICTION: Brewers moneyline (-110)
