Is there a quiet NL Cy Young candidate in Milwaukee not named Corbin Burnes?

Saturday's starter for the Brewers, Eric Lauer, is starting to compile a Cy Young profile for leaders in the National League Central, and will look to further his claim on Saturday in Miami against the Marlins.

The Marlins will counter with one of their promising young pitchers in Taylor Rogers in a battle of left handers, so where is the betting value? Here are the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook:

Brewers vs. Marlins Odds, Run Line, Total

Run Line:

  • Brewers: -1.5 (+145)
  • Marlins: +1.5 (-175)

Moneyline:

  • Brewers: -120
  • Marlins: +110

Total: 8.5 (Over +100/Under -120)

Brewers vs. Marlins Prediction and Pick

Lauer's numbers have been phenomenal this season, posting a 1.82 ERA while seeing his walk numbers drop (career low 2.4 per 9 innings) and his K rate go into the double digits for the first time, currently at 12.7/9. He's in position to succeed on Saturday against a floundering Marlins lineup that is 27th in baseball in batting average against lefties.

On the other side, Trevor Rogers has taken a step back to start 2022 after coming second in the NL Rookie of the Year race last year. His ERA is at 5.00 while his FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) is at 3.97, hinting that some regression could be on the way if he can generate more swings and misses. He is striking out 3 less batters per 9 innings compared to last season but is in a good spot to get back on track against a Brewers team that is striking out at a top 5 rate.

After winning 2-1 on Friday night, I think we see a similar score on Saturday with two elite pitchers against two offenses that can't get on track. While I lean towards the Brewers and Lauer, there is cause for optimism when looking at this matchup for Rogers. I'll go with the under as my favorite play in this NL matchup.
