The Pittsburgh Pirates continue to impress me by not sitting in last place in the NL Central. It’s not exactly a lofty goal, but the Pirates are playing well and are actually in third place in the division heading into this three-game series vs. the Milwaukee Brewers at PNC Park.

The Pirates enter winners of four of their last five games, taking their last series against the Chicago Cubs 3-1. While that is all well and good, the Pirates also were swept by these same Brewers in three games during the prior series.

Brewers vs. Pirates Prediction and Pick

After a solid start, the Brewers have kicked things into high gear heading into May. They are 6-2 straight up in their last eight games and 4-2 ATS in their last six. Milwaukee outscored the Pirates 15-7 in their last series.

The Brewers hope Brandon Woodruff can secure his second win in a row against the Pirates. Woodruff’s last game against them was a gem. The right-hander spun six scoreless innings of one-hit ball; striking out nine and walking two to improve to 2-1. He has looked better and better each start after a disastrous debut in Chicago.

Facing off against him is Mitch Keller for the Pirates. Keller had a solid start against the Brewers last week after giving up just one run in 5 ⅓ innings. He struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter. Sadly, the Pirates bullpen let him and the team down.

While the Brewers are leading the charge in the NL Central, they aren’t exactly setting the scoreboard on fire. In fact, the Brewers rank 23rd in total runs scored. The Pirates rank 22nd. Based on what I believe to be a strong pitching matchup, I feel this game is destined to fall under the total.

Pick: UNDER 7 (+100)
