Brewers vs. Pirates Prediction and Odds for Wednesday, April 27 (Expect an Ugly Game Between NL Central Foes)
By Matt De Saro
After a healthy start to the 2022 season, it seems the Pirates are finally falling back to earth. It’s funny that I consider a .500 record a healthy start.
But, for the Pirates, it’s quite the accomplishment. Pittsburgh has now lost four of their last seven games, including a sweep at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Now, Pittsburgh must host those same Brewers in a three-game series that started on Tuesday. Sure, the Pirates took three of four from the Cubs over the weekend. But Chicago looks awful at 7-9 and is nowhere near the competition that the Brewers are.
Milwaukee currently leads the NL Central with a 10-7 overall record. They are winners of five of their last seven games including a series win over the dangerous Phillies. Can they crush the Pirates again or will Pittsburgh get revenge at home?

Brewers vs. Pirates Prediction and Pick
To be fair, the Brewers aren't playing all that well right now despite their winning ways. They are 28th in the league in batting average and 23rd in total runs scored. Milwaukee also strikes out a lot. Their pitching is the glue holding this team together with a combined ERA of 3.32. Not amazing, but good enough to keep them atop this division for now.
However, all teams have weak spots. And I think that Aaron Ashby is one of those spots for the Brewers. Ashby will get the start today in his fifth appearance of the year. He has served as sort of an opener in his 11 ⅓ innings of work. He’s also seen a lot of mixed results in his first four outings. He held the Cardinals and Orioles scoreless over 7 ⅓ combined innings. But, he gave up four runs in four combined innings against the Phillies and Cubs.
His last outing was his worst after giving up three earned runs and five hits in 2 ⅓ innings. I am not a fan of these openers and the Brewers are 1-3 straight up in the games Ashby plays.
This is going to be an ugly game all around, but one that I think the Pirates eventually emerge from with a win. They are still fighting, winning, and somehow hitting for a decent average.
Pick: Pirates +157
