If you don't want to wait for all four rounds of the Open Championship to complete to find out if you've won your bet or not, then allow me introduce you to the First Round Leader bet.

This bet is on which golfer will be atop the leaderboard at the end of the opening round, which means barring any delays, you'll find out if you've won your bet or not by Thursday evening.

So, let's take a look at the odds to be the first round leader and then I'll break down my prediction.

Trying to figure out who to bet on to be the first round leader is the same as process as handicapping who will win the whole event, except we should be additionally looking at the statistic "Round 1 Scoring Average."

So, I'm going to back a golfer that I'm not betting on in any other way this tournament, but his play in the opening round of events has convinced me to take him as the first round leader.

That man is Viktor Hovland, who ranks fourth on the PGA Tour in Round 1 scoring average at 68.67.

Not only is he great in the first round of tournaments, but he's been fantastic at majors this season. He finished T7 at the Masters, T2 at the PGA Championship and 19th at the U.S. Open. He also finished T12 and T4 at the last two editions of the Open.

At 33/1, I think that's more than a fair price for the Norwegian to be leading after Round 1.
