Brooklyn Nets Could Capture Franchise’s First 60-Win Season
As a New York Knicks fan, I can already tell how annoyed I’m going to be this season seeing the Brooklyn Nets rack up win after win. The Nets have an embarrassment of riches and they will make sure to put it to use this season.
It’s a foregone conclusion that the Nets are going to be in the NBA Finals, barring injury. They are so loaded that they are in the category of teams that treat the regular season as a formality. Even so, Brooklyn could not take the regular season seriously and still create history in the process.
WynnBET has released the win total projections for the entire league and the Nets are projected to win the most games. Like I said earlier, that’s expected. However, their line is set at 56.5, with the under (-116) favoring the over (-105). I think this is an amazing opportunity to take the over. The only concern will be health, but the Nets showed they can win regular season games with ease without all three of their stars. If James Harden, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are on the same floor for a majority of the season, we should expect 60 wins.
The Nets have never won 60 games before, which is where the historic season comes into play. The closest they’ve ever got was in the 1974-75 season, when they were the New York Nets of the ABA. Those Nets won 58 games and lost in the conference semifinals. When it comes to their NBA life, the Nets have only had one season in which they won over 50 games (2001-02).
Brooklyn is going to reach 50 wins easily. The question is whether the Nets get to 60 wins, and I would say they do. With three of the most skilled players ever, it’s going to be extremely hard for the non-title contenders to compete on a nightly basis.
I really wish we could just simulate the season for the Nets, even if they do have a historic one.
