Brooks Koepka Is Somehow Underrated by Oddsmakers Despite Crazy Success in Majors
By Reed Wallach
Is the betting market selling too far on Brooks Koepka?
Koepka enters the PGA Championship at Southern Hills as a long shot, far from his typical standing as one of the favorites. The 4-time major champion has been lauded for his performance at the big tournaments, but health has plagued him of late, sending his price all the way down the boards. Is it time to buy low?
Before we dive into Koepka's major history, let's look at his odds to win the PGA Championship:
Brooks Koepka Odds to Win PGA Championship
The 32-year-old is +4000 at WynnBET Sportsbook to win the PGA's, the furthest he has been in quite some time given his typical performance in big tourneys. However, Koepka has been battling a knee injury recently and hasn't played since he missed the cut the Masters in April.
However, could Koepka find his form on the biggest stage in one of the biggest tournaments of the year?
The numbers are staggering. Nobody plays better at majors than Koepka, but health is the biggest concern. He had surgery on his right knee in March 2021 to repair a dislocated kneecap and ligament damage and has also had hip injuries in recent years.
It's worth noting Koepka pulled out of the AT&T Byron Nelson last week as well for undisclosed reasons, maybe another warning sign ahead of this weekned's event at Southern Hills, even if he is downplaying it.
"The whole reason [for withdrawing] was to just make sure that I’m ready for this week,” Koepka said Tuesday afternoon, per Golf.com. “I feel ready, and now just got to play good. Simple.”
