Bryson DeChambeau Favored to Win Second Straight Rocket Mortgage Classic
The PGA Tour heads to Detroit, Michigan this week for the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
This event made its debut in 2019, when Nick Lashley won the event with a winning score of -25. Bryson DeChambeau won the event last year, winning by 3 strokes with a finish of -23.
With a fairly weak field set to compete at the event this week, DeChambeau is the heavy favorite at +750 to win the event for the second straight year.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic is hosted at the Detroit Golf Club, which is a track that was designed by the famous Donald Ross. With tree-lined fairways and back-to-front sloping greens, it’s a true Donald Ross design.
Unfortunately for Mr. Ross and for golfers who prefer the classic style of game, the course has been overrun with guys who can bomb it off the tee since it began hosting the event in 2019. Even with the course measuring over 7,300 yards, golfers who can hit the ball a mile off the tee are able to cut off dog legs and set themselves up for manageable approach shots.
This is reflected in the winning scores of the events, as both years the winner was -23 or lower.
With the likes of DeChambeau and Matthew Wolff proving that the course can be gouged from the tees, taking a look at driving distance as well as birdie average will be two key stats for this week.
Jason Kokrak at +3000 is a name that sticks out to me this week. He ranks 23rd on Tour in driving distance, and 12th in birdie average. He’s also been in great form recently, capturing a win at the Charles Schwab Challenge last month.
The top golfers who are competing this week will be prepping their game for the upcoming Open Championship which starts on July 11th.
