Butler vs. Oklahoma Prediction and Odds: The Bulldogs are not Equipped to Handle the Sooners
By Matt De Saro
The Butler Bulldogs have enjoyed a relatively easy start to the season and are currently 5-3 in non-conference play. That easy start is about to take a big shift as Butler tries to beat their first top-200 team this season.
So far they have lost to Michigan State, Houston, and Texas A&M in consecutive games. They bounced back well with wins over Saginaw Valley State University and the Chaminade Silverswords. If you have never heard of those teams, you aren’t alone. The Division II-level teams are on few radars and are far from impressive wins from Butler.
Oklahoma, meanwhile, is enjoying their first season under new HC Porter Moser with a 7-1 record. Their lone loss came to Utah State and their biggest win was over No. 14 Florida 74-67 in their last game.

Butler vs. Oklahoma Prediction and Pick
So far Butler has played three “top programs” this year and got smoked by all three. The closes they came to winning those games was against the Aggies 57-50. They lost by 21 to the Spartans and 18 to the Cougars. Even worse, they failed to cover any of those three losses. In fact, they have only covered twice all year. Once against the Division II Silverswords and once to the 1-8 Central Arkansas Bears.
Based on this recent history, it is very hard for me to trust Butler in this spot against a very good Oklahoma team. I have no grand illusions they could reasonably win this game but I don’t even see them covering the double-digit spread. Two of the Bulldog's last three losses were by 18 points or more against teams of the same caliber as Oklahoma.
Conversely, the Sooners have already beaten a Top-15 team this season and did so by seven points. Surely they can manage a better winning margin against the Bulldogs.
Pick: Oklahoma Sooners -10.0 (-110)
