Portland Trailblazers’ star Damian Lillard is among the 50 players that have MVP odds listed at WynnBET Sportsbook right now. At +1500, he represents a strong early-season dark horse at those odds.

Let’s take a quick look at the top-10 on the current MVP odds board at WynnBET Sportsbook.

  • Luka Doncic +450
  • Stephen Curry +550
  • Kevin Durant +550
  • Joel Embiid +700
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo +700
  • Nikola Jokic +1200
  • Trae Young +1500
  • Damian Lillard +1500
  • LeBron James +1600
  • James Harden +2000

It's Time to Invest in Damian Lillard

After losing his top spot to Steph Curry last week, Doncic stepped up and took back his status as odds on favorite. He has started the season with three straight triple-doubles and will be a hard guy to beat out for the MVP.

I will admit that Dame has not had the hottest start to the season, but this only makes his odds more attractive after opening at +1200. Those preseason odds had him listed ahead of reigning MVP Nikola Jokic at +1400. That says a lot about what the pros thought about Lillard before the season started. He has finished in the top-10 of MVP voting for the last four years in a row, and at 31 years old, is primed for a career year with Portland. Last season, he finished with an average of 28.8 points per game, 7.5 dimes, and 4.2 rebounds.

This season has not been kind to the superstar but it is early on and there is plenty of time to make up for a couple of bad games. In his last game out, Lillard had just 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists in 29 minutes. As it stands, Lillard is averaging 17.0 points per game, 3.3 rebounds, 7.3 assists, and sports a PER of 13.67.

Looking back on Lillard’s recent career, it appears that he’s can be a bit of a slow starter so I’m inclined to ignore his first week of work. Last season his first game he’s scored just nine points with seven assists and four rebounds and he still finished in contention for the MVP.

I’m not suggesting that Lillard deserves to be listed up with Durant and Embiid right now, but I do believe that his value at +1500 is hard to ignore. He has proven himself to not only be a superstar but a consistent one that routinely finishes in contention for the MVP.
