Buy Trea Turner to Win MVP Before It's Too Late
By Joe Summers
Being a top contender to win NL MVP feels like a curse at this point. In the last couple of weeks, stars Manny Machado, Mookie Betts, and Bryce Harper have all gone down with injuries.
That's three of the top-five candidates, per the odds at WynnBET Sportsbook, leaving only Paul Goldschmidt (+140) and Pete Alonso (+400) left standing.
With a vacuum at the top of the MVP leaderboard, someone is likely to make a run in the coming weeks.
Enter, Trea Vance Turner. Sitting at +2000 to win NL MVP at WynnBET, Turner is the best value on the board to make a giant leap forward while Machado, Harper, and Betts recover.
Trea Turner As MVP?
After finishing fifth in MVP voting last year, Turner is enjoying another sensational season for the NL West-leading Dodgers.
He's hitting .317 with an .862 OPS to go with 10 home runs, 53 RBIs, 23 walks and 15 stolen bases. As a cherry on top, his slides into home plate are neat:
Jokes aside, I'm not sure there's been a better player in the NL this month than Turner. He has a hit in all but two games in June while batting .355 and scoring 17 runs.
His consistency and dependability will bolster his case, as I'd wager voters are likely to reward health in a year where so many top players are suffering injuries. If the Cardinals or Mets falter down the stretch and the Dodgers end up with the NL's best record, voters will want to reward someone on the club.
That person seems to be Mookie Betts as of now, but manager Dave Roberts just announced Betts' recovery was taking longer than expected. That leaves ample time for Turner to continue leading the Dodgers to success and rise up MVP ballots.
At the least, I'll be surprised if Turner is sitting at +2000 here in a month. Thus, now is the perfect time to bet him at big odds before he reaps the benefits of extended Injured List stints for a number of players ahead of him on the leaderboard.
