BYU vs. Baylor Prediction, Odds and Spread for College Football Week 7

The No. 19 ranked team in the nation, BYU, heads into its game against Baylor as an underdog for the third time this season, despite a tidy 5-1 record. Its only loss came last week at the hands of Boise State 26-17. In that home loss, QB Jarren Hall threw for 22-38 for 302 yards with one touchdown and one INT. On the day, Boise State totaled four turnovers in what would prove to be the Cougars’ downfall. 

Meanwhile, Baylor was busy on the road taking it to West Virginia to the tune of a 45-20 victory. QB Gerry Hohannon lit up the scoreboard with a 336-yard four-touchdown day. He has yet to cede an interception and has 11 TD passes in six outings.

Baylor enters this game with momentum on their side after last weeks crushing win over the Mountaineers. The team’s lone loss came against (12) Oklahoma State by a score of 24-14. It’s hard to fault Baylor for dropping such a hard game. Especially considering the garbage season they had last year. 

On the flip side of things, not only is BYU coming off its first loss of the season, the Cougars looked less than on point in that game. It is the fourth time in the last six games that the offense has failed to reach 30 points. 

The fact of the matter is, Baylor is a team that has been getting stronger as the season goes on and BYU is stumbling a bit. Baylor is a top-25 offense despite not being ranked as a team and their defense has played strong. 

Another factor in my uneasiness on betting BYU is their loss to Boise State. The Broncos are a solid team but with three losses on the season. Those three losses came to Nevada, UCF, and Oklahoma State and tell me that this loss is more than just a hiccup for BYU. This is a game they should have won. 

I don’t mean to overreact to just one loss, but it looks to me this is a classic example of teams heading in opposite directions. BYU hit a big speedbump last weekend and I don’t trust them to snap back on the road this weekend vs Baylor.
