Can Steph Curry Continue 3-Point Rampage Against Jazz?

There’s shooting streaks and then there’s what Steph Curry has been doing just about all season for the Golden State Warriors. 

The two-time MVP is averaging a league-best 31.9 points per game this season and his recent hot stretch of 30 or more points in six-straight games has propelled the Warriors into the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference. 

Tonight, Curry and the Warriors take on the top-seeded Utah Jazz in what could be a preview of the first round of this year’s playoffs. The Warriors have +20000 odds to win the NBA title, but that doesn’t mean they can’t give the Jazz a fight in a seven-game series. 

Curry has an intriguing player prop projection of 6.5 3-pointers made against the Jazz tonight and the under (-160) is the favorite to the over (+120). He’s on pace to shatter Ray Allen’s all-time 3-point record, and while hitting seven or more 3s in any game is a tall task, Curry has done it 18 times this season. 

Of those 18 games with seven or more 3-pointers, Curry has five of them in the Warriors’ last eight contests. He’s averaging 36.5 points over that stretch while hitting an average of 7.3 shots from deep on 16.1 attempts. In his last game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Curry hit 11 3-pointers in total and six in the first half. 

Now, the Jazz are a much better team than the Thunder, but they haven’t slowed Curry down this season. Steph is 11-for-19 from downtown in the Warriors’ two previous games against Utah this season. He didn’t break the 6.5 3-pointer threshold that he would have to tonight for the over to hit, but it’s hard to bet the under when he’s gone over that total more often than not in the past two weeks. 

The Jazz have a top playoff seed locked up in the West, so this game means a lot more to the play-in bound Warriors than it does to them. We think Steph is a good bet to stay hot from beyond the arc, and in general, as he looks to keep the Warriors ahead of the Grizzlies in the West.
