The legend of Washington Football Team quarterback Taylor Heinicke continues to grow each game he plays.

Through two games, Heinicke has completed 45 of 61 passes for 458 yards, three touchdowns and just one interception. Factor in an eye-opening performance in Washington's 31-23 playoff loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and it's reasonable to think that if he continues to play well, initial starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick could get "Wally Pipp'd" in the process.

Heinicke says he's ready to be the starter, talking with NFL Network postgame following Washington's 30-29 comeback win at home against the New York Giants. When asked if he's earned the right to be the team's starter for the remainder of the season, Heinicke didn't skip a beat.

"I do, and I have confidence that I can do it," said Heinicke postgame.

"... If those guys in the locker room and the facility believe in me, that's all that matters, and I believe they do."

Oddsmakers like Washington's chances to win the NFC East regardless of who starts at quarterback

Over at WynnBET, the Dallas Cowboys remain the division favorites in the NFC East despite a Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road, but Washington is close behind.

NFC East teams have recently been taken down at WynnBET for the division futures, but before Thursday night, Dallas was listed at +145 to win the division, with Washington second at +250. If they were to take the lead and hold off Dallas, Washington and New York, the Football Team would be the first to win the NFC East in consecutive years since 2004 when the Eagles won their third consecutive division crown, losing in the Super Bowl XXXIX to the Patriots.

As for Fitzpatrick, the 38-year old journeyman quarterback is now on his ninth team in 17 seasons. Fitzpatrick was 4-3-0 as the starter last year for the Dolphins before being replaced by first round draft pick Tua Tagovailoa.

Washington will have a tough matchup next week when they travel to Buffalo to face the Bills at 1 p.m. ET.
