Two teams that are deep in the playoff hunt face off tonight in what could be the game of the night in the NHL. The Vancouver Canucks, the fifth-ranked team in the Pacific Division, are on the second half of a back-to-back on the road. The Canucks managed a win in that game and what a victory it was. Vancouver took out one of the best teams in the NHL, the Colorado Avalanche, 3-1 in regulation.

The Minnesota Wild currently ranks third in the Central Division and are riding a modest three-game win streak heading into tonight. They are rested, on a bit of a streak, and have the home-ice advantage.

Here are the odds for tonight’s matchup, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.

Canucks vs. Wild Prediction and Pick

I mentioned that the Canucks are coming off a very impressive win over the Avs last night. What I failed to mention was that before that win, the Canucks were 1-5 straight up in their last six games. I bring this up because I don’t think that last night’s win was anything more than a fluke. I don’t think that this is any real indication that the Canucks have turned a corner.

The Wild, meanwhile, are on a three-game win streak at home. They covered the puck line in each of those three games as well. The Wild are the third highest-scoring team in the NHL at 3.66 goals per game. The Canucks do have an edge on the defensive end of things. But both the Canucks and Wild rank in the middle third of teams in goaltending. So, the Canucks’ edge is minimal.

The Wild did recently acquire Marc-Andre Fleury, but he is not ready to start quite yet. Therefore Cam Talbot gets the nod.

To be honest, both defenses are pretty inconsistent and a lot of that comes down to goaltending. I think that the Wild end up on top of this game and that the OVER is not a bad bet considering those defensive struggles.

Pick: Wild -1.5 (+120) | Lean: OVER 6 (-125)
