The Primetime matchup on the Fourth of July slate is between St. Louis and Atlanta. Both teams are just a few games out of the top spot in their division and firmly entrenched in the Wild Card race in the NL. The Cardinals enter the series at 44-37 and Atlanta is 46-34.

Game 1 of this four game series will feature Dakota Hudson on the mound for the Cards and Kyle Wright getting the ball for the reigning World Series champs.

Cardinals vs. Braves Prediction and Pick

These two teams seem far too evenly matched for Atlanta to be such a heavy favorite in this one.

We can start on the mound, and yes, Kyle Wright has been slightly more effective than Dakota Hudson, with a 3.03 ERA compared to Hudson’s 3.83, but it was just struggles to end June that ballooned Hudson’s ERA to that point.

Wright was excellent last time out with a seven inning, one run performance against Philly, but he struggled his prior two starts.

The real similarities between the two teams comes in their last 10 games. Atlanta has gone 6-4 and St. Louis 4-6, but when you consider that Atlanta has outscored its opponents by three runs and St. Louis has been outscored by just one run, that those records could have easily been the same or flipped.

Oh and the Braves' top performer over that stretch? Austin Riley has hit .364 with four doubles, two homers, and seven RBI for the Braves. Nolan Arenado went crazy for the Cards, hitting for a .366 average, three home runs and seven RBI.

This matchup just feels too similar for this type of odds, so I’ll happily take St. Louis on the run line because this feels like it’ll be close.

Pick: Cardinals +1.5 (-140)
