Cardinals vs. Brewers Prediction and Odds for Saturday, April 16 (Matz Looks to Avoid Another Meltdown)
By Matt De Saro
The Milwaukee Brewers host the St. Louis Cardinals in the third game of a four games series at American Family Field. The first two games were split with the Cardinals taking game two yesterday in a 10-1 blowout. It was a flawless game on both sides with Miles Mikolas carrying a one-hitter into the seventh inning before he got the hook. On offense, the Cardinals continued to hit well with home runs from both Tommy Edman and Nolan Arenado. After opening with a four-run first inning, the Cardinals never looked back.
Can they get off to another hot start tonight against the Brewers starter Adrian Houser? Considering the Cardinals lead the MLB in first-inning runs, it’s not an unlikely outcome.

Cardinals vs. Brewers Prediction and Pick
Houser had a very strong 2021 but his debut in 2022 left a lot to be desired. It took him 76 pitches to go 3 ⅔ innings with two earned runs. It wasn’t a terrible start, but Houser never settled in and I worry he needs another start or two to get up to speed.
However, the Cardinals are sending Seven Matz to the hill tonight after one of the worst season debuts on display during the first week of games. In three brutal innings, Matz gave up seven earned runs while striking out five and walking one. While that is bad enough, it happened against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Based on the question marks surrounding the starting pitching, and the habit that the Cardinals have of starting hot, I like the over in this game. Three of the last four games for the Cards have gone OVER and I think we’re in for another show at the plate.
Pick: OVER 9 (+100)
