St. Louis travels to Philadelphia on this holiday weekend for a three-game set with the Phillies. The Cardinals come in after a day off on Thursday, but Philly had to wrap up the first series of this home-stand last night against the Braves.

Philadelphia is a few games out of the final wild card spot which is currently held by St. Louis.

The Phillies hand the ball to Bailey Falter and hope that he won’t, falter and the Cardinals hope to get some length out of Miles Mikolas.

Is that enough bad jokes for you?

Cardinals vs. Phillies Prediction and Pick

If the Phillies want to vault themselves back into the playoff picture, they will have to do so without Bryce Harper, the reigning NL MVP. Harper is having another ridiculously good season, leading the Phillies in about every statistical category outside of home runs where Kyle Schwarber is up on Harper by seven, but he had surgery Wednesday to repair a broken thumb and is expected to be out 6-8 weeks.

Schwarber might be the one to carry the Phillies without Harper. Schwarber and Rhys Hoskins have been steady forces in the Philadelphia lineup, but their other prized acquisitions have not lived up to their billing. Nick Castellanos has an OPS of .674, JT Realmuto is at .672, and their prized third base prospect Alec Bohm has an OPS of just .655. Castellanos and Bohm have negative wins above replacement.

Injuries have forced Bailey Falter into the rotation for Philly, he has only made three other starts this year and has a 4.50 ERA, but an abysmal, 6.13 fielding independent pitching.

Miles Mikolas has been fantastic this season with a 2.57 ERA and 2.76 FIP and that should be more than good enough against a depleted Phillies team.

Pick: Cardinals -1.5 (+112)
