The St. Louis Cardinals are slowly but surely putting some distance between themselves and the Brewers in the NL West standings.

Despite going just 5-5 in their last five games, the Cards lead the NL West by 1.5 games over the Brewers. This appears to be a two-horse race as the rest of the division are more than 10 games off the pace.

The Cardinals face off against the Red Sox today, another surging team in their respective standings. Boston spent the last three days taking a pretty easy series at home over the Athletics. In the first two games of that series, the Red Sox combined to win 16-2.

Here are the odds for this game from consensus sportsbooks.

Cardinals vs. Red Sox Prediction and Pick

Two veteran pitchers share the mound today with Michael Wacha and Adam Wainwright squaring off.

Both pitchers are having phenomenal seasons and should combine to put on quite a show today. Wainwright is doing his best Justin Verlander impression; boasting a 2.84 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in his 40's. Since his debut in 2005, Wainwright has held the current Red Sox roster to a .183 batting average with zero home runs.

Wacha makes his 11th start of the year for Boston in his first season with the club as he faces his former team. It seems a change of scenery is just what Wacha needed after finishing with an ERA over 4.00 in five of his last six seasons. But he’s making a comeback at age 30 with a 2.33 ERA and 1.00 WHIP. Am I the only one who thought Wacha was much older than 30 by the way?

I realize that both teams are hot right now, but a total of 10 feels a little high for this game. Both pitchers are playing phenomenal baseball right now and I’m willing to be that continues today.

Pick: UNDER 10 (-115)
