A pair of NL Central foes going in opposite directions meet in Cincinnati.

The Cardinals travel to face the 2-11 Reds on Friday night to kick off a weekend series as the Cards look to stay in the mix atop the National League Central standings.

The Cards will send out left hander Steven Matz while the Reds will counter with promising young prospect Shane Greene, who will look to settle down after a shaky start to the 2022 season.

Here are the odds for Friday's matchup from WynnBET Sportsbook:

Cardinals vs. Reds Odds, Run Line, Total

Run Line:

  • Cardinals: -1.5 (+125)
  • Reds: +1.5 (-150)

Moneyline:

  • Cardinals: -123
  • Reds: +103

Total: 8.5 (Over -110/Under -110)

Cardinals vs. Reds Prediction and Pick

Greene has struggled with the long ball through his first two starts, allowing 3 home runs, but should get a nudge from the weather in Cincinnati on Friday night with more than 6 miles per hour of winds blowing in in a typically hitter friendly park.

He is punching out north of 11 batters per 9 innings and I believe he is due for some positive regression in the runs department as long as he avoids allowing homers. He is walking less than 2 batters per 9 innings so his control has been on point. St. Louis has some boppers like Tyler O'Neil and Nolan Arenado, but the team is 12th in batting average this season, so the team as a whole is nothing special to date.

Meanwhile, Matz should get on track against a porous Reds offense. Cincy's lineup is hitting .177 on the year and the free agent signing should see his ERA turn around. He has a 7.27 ERA through 2 starts, but his FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) is 2.36! Matz has been on the wrong side of some poor fielding from what is considered the best defense in baseball, so I expect we see him put together a quality start against the Reds.

I'm going to bank on both pitchers to get on track and both offenses to continue to be unimpressive.

LEAN: UNDER 8.5 (-110)
