Celtics Becoming Strong Team to Bet On Ahead of Matchup With Hornets

The Boston Celtics have been a bit of a frustrating team to be on this season. With a 27-25 overall record (.519) they are currently ninth in the Eastern Conference and six games behind the Chicago Bulls for the top spot. From a betting standpoint, they are a perfect .500 at 25-25-2 against the spread. This is where my frustration with them stems from.

There are few things more annoying than a team that constantly flip-flops between ATS winners and losers. The Celtics have been back and forth all year in this regard. They cover two games and then go on an 0-4 ATS losing stream only to cover the next two until the cycle starts again. The Celtics have not covered three games in a row all year but have twice lost three in a row against the spread. While this is an annoying trend, there might just be a light at the end of the tunnel. The Celtics have put together their best five games in a row in terms of ATS record.

Celtics are Getting Hot Against the Spread

Over the course of their last five games, the Celtics are 4-1 against the spread. The only ATS loss during that span was a blowout to the Atlanta Hawks where Boston lost by 16 as one-point underdogs on the road. I may be a bit too optimistic, but I think the Celtics might just be turning a corner in terms of cover. This goes double for when they are home favorites. The Celtics have covered their last two games in a row at the TD Garden heading into Wednesday night when they host the Hornets. Far more impressive was the manner in which those two wins came about.

Their last game at home saw them destroy the Miami Heat 122-92 and cover by 23.5 points as home favorites. The game before that at home saw them put up a 53 point victory over the Sacramento Kings. The Celtics were nine-point favorites in that game. The game prior, while not a home game, saw Boston beat the Wizards by 29.

While none of these games were against the Hornets, they do show a trend forming. The Celtics have been on fire lately and have three wins of at least 29 points in their last five games. They have covered those games by a combined 94 points and I think might cruise to another ATS win tonight against the Hornets. As of this writing, WynnBET Sportsbook has the Celtics as 6.5-point favorites over the visiting team from Charlotte.
