The  MAC West Division is a two-team race right now with the NIU Huskies and Central Michigan Chippewas ranked one and two respectively. The rest of the division is tied with 3-3 records in the conference with CMU 4-2 and NIU 5-1. This is a tight race and will only get tighter if the Huskies drop one of their remaining three games of the season. 

The Chippewas have a date with Ball State this week in what will be a big game for both teams as the season nears its end. 

Central Michigan is riding a two-game win streak with victories over Western Michigan and Kent State. Last week, the Chippewas exploded for 54-points in a win over Kent State that saw QB Daniel Richardson throw four touchdown passes and Lew Nichols III run for an additional four. Nicols now has 1,297 yards rushing this season and ranks third in the nation behind Sean Tucker and Kenneth Walker III. He has gone over 100-yards seven times and has 11 total rushing touchdowns If the Chippewas offense plays like they did last week, they will make quick work of the Cardinals.

This game will be won or lost by the way that CMU’s offensive line plays. If they can give Nicols space to run, he will tear this defense apart. While the line has been successful so far in that goal, they haven’t been so good at protecting their quarterback. The Chippewas have allowed 19 sacks so far this season making Richardson the second-most sacked QB in the nation. Ball State doesn’t have the most impressive pass rush, but it is good enough to make Richardson’s game that much harder. 

Ball State is a good all-around team and is better on paper, but they lack a real answer for Nichols. Nobody has been able to keep him in check to be fair. I think that he is running with so much momentum right now after several successful weeks he will carry this team to another win.
