The 2022 season has been a weird one of the Cleveland Browns, as they dropped games to the New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons, two teams that many expected them to beat even without Deshaun Watson.

Cleveland has played a bunch of close games, with three of its four matchups being decided by three points or less, and now it finds itself as a home dog against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 5.

The Chargers nearly blew a big lead in Week 4 against the Houston Texans, but a late Justin Herbert touchdown pass helped them win and cover in that matchup.

Let’s jump into the odds and a pick for this AFC matchup in Week 5:

Chargers vs. Browns Odds, Spread and Total

Browns vs. Chargers Betting Trends

  • The Chargers are 3-1 against the spread this season
  • The Browns are 2-2 ATS this season
  • Kevin Stefanski is 1-1 ATS as a home underdog
  • The Chargers are 1-3 ATS as road favorites under Brandon Staley
  • The OVER is 3-1 in Cleveland’s four games this season

Chargers vs. Browns Prediction and Pick

The Browns have played close games this season, relying on their running game, but I’m worried about this team slowing down Herbert after he threw for 340 yards in Week 4.

The Browns have given up big games to Baker Mayfield and Joe Flacco through the air this season, and they may not have Myles Garrett (shoulder) in this matchup.

The Chargers offense could get Keenan Allen back in Week 5, making them even more dangerous than they already are.

The issue for me in this game is the quarterback play from Brissett, as he’s coming off his worst game of the season in Week 4. If this comes down to a game where the Browns’ offense has to keep up with L.A., I’m taking the Chargers every time.

You may want to wait and see if this falls below a field goal, but I don’t mind laying the three with Herbert and company.
