In Week 8, the Los Angeles Chargers (4-3) took their second consecutive loss, falling to the New England Patriots, 27-24. Quarterback Justin Herbert threw two interceptions, one of them being a pick-six touchdown for New England on the first drive of the fourth quarter.

Fortunately, Herbert and the Bolts have a decent bounce back opportunity against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 9.

The Eagles (3-5) destroyed the Detroit Lions in Week 8, 44-6. I’m not sure whether that huge win says more about the Lions being bad or Philadelphia’s offense coming around, but it was a much needed performance for Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni.

Philadelphia picked up four touchdowns on the ground in the win, two from running back Boston Scott, and two from Jordan Howard. Howard was just elevated to the active roster from the practice squad prior to Week 8.

Chargers vs. Eagles Prediction and Pick

The Chargers have allowed just 203.1 passing yards per game this season, fifth best in the NFL, so Jalen Hurts will probably struggle through the air. But, Los Angeles is allowing 159.4 rushing yards per game, worst in the NFL. I’d expect the Eagles to use their collection of running backs, and Hurts’ legs, to pick up yardage on the ground.

Philadelphia’s defense has been respectable, and could potentially give Herbert fits, allowing just 220.6 passing yards per game. Although, the Eagles defense got picked apart in the two games prior to playing Jared Goff and the Lions. Tom Brady of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers threw for 297 and two touchdowns and Derek Carr of the Las Vegas Raiders completed 31 of 34 passes for 323 yards and two touchdowns.

I’m not a believer in the Eagles offense after their 44-point showing against the Detroit Lions. As long as Jalen Hurts is quarterbacking this offense, I have little faith in it.

I’m taking the Chargers on the spread at -2.5 and on the moneyline at -145.
