Charlie Morton vs. Dodgers NLCS Game 4 Props
By Matt De Saro
The Braves are looking to extend their lead to three games tonight in the NLCS against the Dodgers in LA. Atlanta will be placing the ball in the hands of starter Charlie Morton to try and accomplish that.
Morton was the team’s ace during the regular season, going 14-6 with a 3.34 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP. So far in the postseason, Morton started twice against the Brewers in the NLDS. In those games, Morton pitched 9 ⅓ innings and surrendered four runs on seven hits with an impressive strikeout total of 14.
So, how will that success translate into tonight’s game? Or, will it at all? Let’s dive into some player props odds at WynnBET for the righty from my hometown and see if we can make a few extra bucks tonight.
Best NLCS Game 3 Prop Bets for Walker Buehler
- Charlie Morton OVER 5.5 K’s (+120)
- Charlie Morton UNDER 1.5 earned runs (+135)
- Charlie Morton OVER 3.5 hits (-170)
Charlie Morton OVER 5.5 K’s (+120)
Charlie Morton is making his 16th career playoff appearance in this game and already has 70 ⅔ innings of postseason work under his belt. The Braves will be leaning on him heavily to help them win this all-important game 3 matchups on the road. He will need to fan a few Dodgers to get there.
The playoffs have been kind to Morton in terms of strikeouts so this prop is looking strong. Especially considering the plus-money odds. Morton, in 9 ⅓ innings of postseason work against the Brewers, totaled 14 strikeouts in two games. If he can keep that pace, or anything close to it, he should have no problem striking out six so long as he doesn’t get pulled early in favor of resting him for a possible upcoming series.
Charlie Morton UNDER 1.5 earned runs (+135)
As mentioned above, Morton has been having a very strong postseason so far. And this being his 19ths start in the playoffs, you can see why. Unlike the younger guys, Morton sees this game as another day at the office in my opinion. Therefore, I like his chances to escape this game relatively unscathed and am taking some underdog props to support that idea.
The Brewers spent the better part of 10 innings in the NLCS struggling with Morton when he was on the hill. While he did give up seven hits, he held the Brewers to a lone run in the series, coming off a homer, and walked just two.
Question is, can he repeat his performance against a better offense? I think yes and barring any huge misstep, I think he keeps the Dodgers in check during his time on the hill.
Charlie Morton OVER 3.5 hits (-170)
While I do think Morton is on track to have a phenomenal game tonight, it won’t be perfect. Despite his ability to strike guys out and limit runs crossing the plate, he does give up his fair share of hits. In the two games against Milwaukee, despite surrendering just one run off a homer in 9 ⅔ innings, Morton also gave up seven clean hits to the Brew Crew. While this was ultimately inconsequential, it goes to show that Morton does pitch to contact more than some Braves fans would like.
In the month of September, for example, Morton started five games. He pitched into the fifth inning in each and threw for seven in three of those games. Also, in all but one game, Morton gave up four or more hits. This is not to say that Morton is going to have issues tonight, he does a good job of pitching out of trouble. But, the Dodgers will get their and cash this prop for us before Morton gets sent to the pen.
