The Davidson Wildcats (6-1) are off to a hot start under first-year head coach Matt McKillop, and they have a matchup at home against the Charlotte 49ers (5-2) on Tuesday night.

Charlotte has an impressive neutral site win over Boise State this season, and Ron Sanchez’s club is one of the best defensive teams in the country, ranking 99th in opponent effective field goal percentage and allowing less than 70 points in all but one game this season.

Foster Loyer (22.7 points per game) and the Wildcats are favored in this game, and they get things done on the offensive end, ranking 49th in the country in adjusted offensive efficiency.

With a clash of styles set to take place on Tuesday, how should we bet on this game?

Charlotte vs. Davidson Prediction and Pick

While the 49ers are a good defensive team, they do struggle to defend the 3-point shot, allowing opponents to shoot 35.6 percent from beyond the arc (242nd in the country).

I have no desire on betting a total in this game since both teams play at a slow pace (Davidson is 291st in adjusted tempo, Charlotte is 361st), but I do think that deficiency on defense for Charlotte is a huge benefit for Loyer and company.

The Wildcats are 33.9 percent from beyond the arc this season, and they’re also 29th in the country in 2-point percentage. If Davidson can take advantage of some early 3-point opportunities, it should open up the rest of the game for this offense.

Charlotte’s offense is fine, ranking 96 in effective field goal percentage, but the team has an average possession length of 20.1 seconds on the season.

The 49ers would much rather play a half court game, but that could be a problem if they fall behind early against a better offensive team.

Davidson has won by four or more points in each of its six victories this season, and I think the Wildcats are the side to back again at home.
