Chicago White Sox Woefully Overpriced in Latest MLB World Series Odds
By Matt De Saro
I think it's safe to say that the White Sox have been one of the biggest surprise disappointments so far this year. They were expected to run away with the AL Central for the second season in a row. With the rest of the division rather weak, the White Sox seemed like an obvious bet to win it. Considering the Twins are leading with an 8-8 record, Chicago still is the obvious bet to win the AL Central
However, at 6-9, there is no reason why their odds to win the World Series are currently +1000. I’m expected to believe that the White Sox are the third-best bet to win it all behind the Dodgers and Blue Jays?
I’m all for positive thinking, but the odds for the White Sox to win the World Series take optimism to a whole different level. Let’s take a quick look at the current favorites to win it all from WynnBET Sportsbook.
Odds to Win the World Series
- Los Angeles Dodgers +500
- Toronto Blue Jays +700
- Chicago White Sox +1000
- New York Mets +1000
- Atlanta Braves +1200
- Houston Astros +1200
- New York Yankees +1200
- Milwaukee Brewers +1500
- San Diego Padres +1500
- San Francisco Giants +2000
The level of disrespect for the Mets and the Giants here is astonishing, but this article is about the White Sox, so let's move on. The White Sox are currently on a seven-game losing streak by the way. Which makes all of this even more insane. They are 2-5 ATS and were blown out three times during that span.
They are struggling for all of the reasons one would expect. They are neither hitting nor pitching up to their potential.
The White Sox have the potential to go on a run, pull out of this funk, and crush the rest of the AL East. But, do they really have that much potential to win the World Series? I’m suspicious, to say the least.
The White Sox are currently the 24th-ranked offense in terms of batting average and 20th in team ERA. While the Sox lead the MLB in strikeouts, they are 27th in walks. They don’t rank in the top 20 in any significant metric on either side of the ball in fact. So how is this team +1000 to win the World Series?
I don’t see it and would absolutely avoid betting on the White Sox anywhere near these odds, if at all.
