The Cincinnati Bearcats finish off the regular season tonight with a road game in Dallas against the SMU Mustangs. The Bearcats started the season with a lot of promise winning five in a row out of the gate. Since then, things haven’t gone as smooth and Cincy went 12-13 over the remaining 25 games of the year. They currently sit in seventh place in the AAC and have little to play for other than pride. SMU, on the other hand, had a rough start to the year and went 3-3 in their first six games. However, they were able to turn things around and went 17-4 over the rest of the year and currently sit in second place in the American Conference. With just one game left they couldn't catch Houston for the top spot and almost blew their shot at an NCAA tournament with recent losses to Temple and Wichita State. While their recent loss to Houston slammed the door on SMU’s chances to win a conference title, they are still in a good spot to earn a tournament bid. They just have to beat up on the Bearcats tonight soundly. The Mustangs are also out for a spot of revenge because one of the games that eventually robbed them of a title came at the hands of Cincinnati. The Bearcats embarrassed the Mustangs 77-60 and broke up an eight-game winning streak. While the Mustangs have not beaten Cincinnati since 2017, I think that streak comes to a swift end tonight. SMU has been playing very hard at home and needs this win to keep their season alive in tournament play.
