Clay Helton Gets Fired Two Years Too Late
By Reed Wallach
Clay Helton was fired as USC's head coach on Monday afternoon, the school's Athletic Director Mike Bohn announced.
This comes on the heels of the Trojans dropping their game to Stanford on Saturday night, 42-28, losing as 17.5-point favorites.
Cornerbacks coach Donte Williams will serve as the team's interim head coach.
Helton went 46-24 as head coach of USC, but has been on the hot seat since going 5-7 in 2018. After years of underwhelming results, which included a 2-3 record in bowl games, the Trojans finally moved on from their struggling coach.
Helton was not kind to bettors either, going 30-39-1 ATS as the head coach of USC, including the games he was an interim coach for.
One of the most high profile jobs in the country, there is sure to be a long list of qualified candidates for who will take over for Helton.
Before the move, the Trojans were 8.5-point favorites at WynnBET Washington State this weekend and had +600 odds to win the PAC-12.
