You know how sometimes a parent will give a younger sibling special treatment, just to make them happy? While Clayton Kershaw didn't throw any tantrums en route to being named the National League starting pitcher in the All-Star Game, there's no question that Sandy Alcantara was more deserving.

Alas, this was a career-achievement nod for Kershaw (something MLB folks are quite fond of), who had never started the All-Star Game despite being the generation's best pitcher.

Both pitchers threw a scoreless inning in the exhibition in Kershaw's home park, though Alcantara was more impressive. Even the future Hall of Fame left-hander himself admitted the Marlins' righty probably should have been the starter:

Sitting at -125 to win the NL Cy Young at WynnBET Sportsbook, Alcantara is having a season for the ages and it feels like the award is all but locked up.

I think of Sandy as new-age Iron Man, having thrown at least seven innings in each of his last 13 starts. He's thrown 138.1 innings in total, allowing more than two runs just twice in 19 starts en route to a 1.76 ERA.

Frankly, I think Alcantara should be getting MVP buzz. But at the least, he remains a value to win NL Cy Young and a virtual lock barring injury. Hurry to WynnBET to get your Cy Young bet placed - Iron Man's odds are only growing steeper by the day.
