The Clemson Tigers and Syracuse Orange meet up in primetime on Friday night in a Week 7 ACC showdown under the lights. Clemson is sitting at 3-2 and is unranked for the first time since the 2014 season.

Clemson might be one of the biggest surprises of 2021, but Syracuse is also turning heads in the conference. The Orange is 3-3 and has the No. 11 ranked rushing attack in the nation. While that might not sound so impressive, consider that Syracuse finished 1-10 last season. The team could easily be 4-2 but suffered a tough overtime loss to Wake Forest 40-37.

Lets examine the betting odds for Clemson v Syracuse at WynnBET Sportsbook and make a pick for this Friday night clash.

Clemson vs. Syracuse Prediction

Syracuse is heading into this game on a two-game losing steak after the heartbreaker to Wake Forest. This makes two weeks in a row that the Orange suffered a tough loss within the ACC after failing to get it done at Florida State. The team has split their last four home games but Clemson is a step up in competition for them. Despite their struggles, Clemson is not going to be an easier game by any stretch of the imagination.

One thing that Syracuse has going for them is their exceptional rushing attack. In terms of yards per game, the Orange ranks 13th in the nation, ahead of Ohio State and Michigan State. The team is averaging 236.2 YPG on the ground and last week posed 354 against Wake.

While that is all good for Syracuse, there is one issue if they plan to rely on this game plan. The one thing that Clemson is doing a good job with this season is stopping the run. Not great, but good. They are ranked 23rd in the nation and allow just 108 YPG to oppose rushers. Last game, they held Boston College to just 57 yards rushing.

The Tigers also had an extra week to prep while the Orange were busy losing a heartbreaker. While they certainly are not the team they once were, Clemson has the tools to build their season back up. When and if they actually do so, however, remains to be seen.

This game is a toughie with Clemson’s awful ATS record looming overhead to anyone thinking of backing them. Syracuse, to its credit, has lost hard and close games to above-average teams and I expect them to put up a good fight against this struggling program.

At the end of the day, I find it hard to trust either of these teams to cover the spread so I’ll be on the total in this one. Both teams have above-average defenses and have been under cashing machines this year. These two teams combined have just two games that cashed the over in their last 10 tries. I see this game as more of the same and expect a lower-scoring affair.

Pick: Clemson & Syracuse UNDER 45.5 (-110)
