Every glance at the Chiefs’ roster reminds you of the embarrassment of riches they have in Kansas City. With Patrick Mahomes and the weapons on the outside, sometimes Clyde Edwards-Hellairewards-Hellaire can get lost in the mix. Edwards-Hellaire was limited in the postseason last year due to a high ankle sprain, but now he’s 100% ready for a crucial sophomore season.

In his 13 game regular season, Edwards-Hellaire provided decent production for Kansas City, he ran for 808 yards and 4 touchdowns. Edwards-Hellaire was also able to contribute as a pass catcher in a limited capacity, he was targeted 54 times and caught 36 of those passes.

As Edwards-Hellaire tries to make himself a staple in the offense, he realized there was more he had to do.

“Talking to coach Reid and also Pat (Mahomes), there are things we’re implementing to get the ball to the back and just get the ball spread out more. So, that was one of the things on why I chose to work on my hands and just be more of a threat,” Edwards-Hellaire said.  “It was seen that I can run the ball between the tackles, outside. That was kind of seen, so just being able to also get out, and not just routes out of the backfield, but also spread out in the slot position and also the outside wideout position. So, just being able to expand my skill set was my thing.”

The Chiefs would love Edwards-Hellaire to expand his game, but quite frankly they don’t need it. The Chiefs are expected to run the table this season. They are favored to win the AFC West with their odds set at -310. Kansas City is also the favorite (+525) to win the Super Bowl, according to WynnBET. For Mahomes and the Chiefs, that’s exactly the plan.

Edwards-Hellaire had a solid rookie season despite the injuries, but his sophomore season is crucial for his development and future.
