College Football Weather Report for Week 12 (How Weather Will Impact Betting)
By Reed Wallach
The college football regular season is coming to a close, which means the seasons are changing and weather is impacting college football games.
There is extreme weather in the Northeast this week as a massive snowstorm has ripped through the Buffalo area, leading to the Bulls vs. Arkon game to be postponed until possibly Sunday. For reference, that total had dropped five points on the news that a three-to-six foot snow storm was coming through over the weekend.
There's more weather expected to impact the Midwest part of the United State and Saturday's college football slate. Here are three games that have weather impacting the game and how it is altering the spread and total of the game.
Indiana vs. Michigan State Odds, Spread, Over/Under
This total has held fairly steady from the opener of 47, bouncing between that and 48, but there will be high winds in East Langsig on Saturday afternoon, more than 19 miles per hour. It should be a frigid early kick as well with temperatures in the low 20's, around 23 at the time of kick off.
Keep in mind that Indiana passes at the third highest rate in the country and Michigan State is 31st in that metric. With high winds, the passing game may be significantly altered and can slow down both offenses.
Iowa vs. Minnesota Odds, Spread and Total
In a game with one of the lowest totals in college football history there should be some wind here as well. This opened at 33 and has stayed pretty static all week, anywhere between 31.5 and 33 as of this writing between two teams that play at a snail's pace and lack explosive playmakers to challenge two stout defenses.
There is projected winds of 13 miles per hour and kickoff temperature of 11 degrees at Huntington Bank Stadium, making it even harder to score in this Big Ten battle.
Boston College vs. Notre Dame Odds, Spread and Total
There's snow in the forecast in South Bend, Indiana on Saturday with winds of more than 16 miles per hour and a frigid 24 degrees. It shouldn't be an overwhelming amount of snow, but there should be flurries starting around kickoff.
The total has dropped from the already low 46.5 down to 43 as of this writing with not just snow in the forecast, but high winds.
Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
