One of the more intriguing matchups for off the field reasons goes down on Friday as a former coach returns to his school.

Jay Norvell bolted from Nevada last year, taking several key players from the team, to join Colorado State. Nevada is still trying to put together a roster after Norvell left, but the Rams haven't done much better with Norvell as the man in charge, stumbling to a 0-4 record this season.

Will Norvell return to his former home stadium and lead his new team to victory, or will the Wolf Pack hand their old coach another loss and improve to .500 on the year?

Colorado State vs. Nevada Prediction and Pick

This isn't a pretty game, but I think that we have seen enough from Nevada to install them as small favorites in this game. No, I don't subscribe too much to the "Nevada is getting up for Jay Norvell's return" because the team is a nearly completely different team with one of the lowest returning productions in the country.

Colorado State's offense is bottom of the nation in nearly every offensive metric, namely yards per play (130th), sacks allowed (130th) and yards per carry (131st). No, Nevada isn't good on offense either, but the defensive line has shown promise this season, 50th in tackles for loss this season and 34th in havoc generated.

Nevada's offense has been able to hit explosive plays on the ground with veteran running back Toa Taua averaging over four yards per carry and leading a Wolf Pack unit that is top 30 in explosive rush rate this season.

This is a low total game, and neither team pushes the tempo at all (Colorado State is outside the top 100 in plays per minute) so the under has some merit, but I think Nevada wins this one going away.
