Colts vs. Jaguars Prediction, Odds, Spread and Over/Under for NFL Week 2 (Indy's Woes in Jacksonville Continue)
By Ben Heisler
For the first time in Frank Reich's career as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, he didn't lose a game in Week 1 of the NFL season.
Then again, he didn't win either; tying the Houston Texans 20-20 on the road to begin their 2022 campaign.
Progress, perhaps?
They'll need more than steps in the right direction when they return to TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville for the first time since their Week 18 loss in 2021 to the then 2-14 Jaguars; eliminating them from a return to the postseason.
Jacksonville opens up the season at home following a 28-22 loss on the road to the Washington Commanders. Ironically enough, it was last year's starting quarterback for the Colts, Carson Wentz, that led Washington to a comeback victory against the very team that knocked him out of the playoffs last year.
Here's how the oddsmakers in Vegas see this AFC South matchup:
Colts vs. Jaguars Odds, Spread and Total
Colts vs. Jaguars Betting Trends
Colts:
- Colts are 0-4 both straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS) at Jacksonville under Frank Reich
- Colts are 1-4 ATS in last five games vs. AFC South opponents.
- UNDERS are 6-0 in Colts last six games as a favorite
- Colts are 6-1 ATS in their last seven after a ATS loss
Jaguars:
- Jaguars are 1-8 against the spread (ATS) in their last nine games.
- Jaguars are 7-0 ATS in last seven games vs. Colts in Jacksonville
- Underdog is 5-0 SU and ATS in last five games between Colts and Jaguars
Colts vs. Jaguars Prediction and Pick
The Colts began the season as -140 consensus favorites to win the AFC South, so after a surprise tie to Houston in Week 1, they should be able to dust themselves off and take care of business on the road in Jacksonville, right?
One slight problem?
The Colts cannot seem to win in Jacksonville under Frank Reich.
Similar to his Week 1 issues (now 0-4-1 both straight up and against-the-spread), Reich is 0-4 both straight up and against the spread in his career in Jacksonville. What makes this even more wild is the Jaguars finishing with the worst record in the NFL over the last two years, and the Colts finishing with a winning record in both years.
Furthermore, Reich is just 8-12-1 straight up in Weeks 1-5 as ahead coach. From Week 6 on is when the offense, led by his fifth quarterback in five years starts to get going and the team is far more consistent overall.
Jacksonville with Doug Pederson is not only more talented, but far better coached than from a seasons ago with Urban Meyer at the helm. I think the Jags can easily cover the 4.5 at home, and they may even be live for an upset as well.
