Sean McVay decided to swap out Jared Goff for Matthew Stafford, which is quite the upgrade, in order to fully unlock the potential of the Rams’ offense. Despite Cam Akers going down, Stafford still has an array of weapons at his disposal.

Two of his weapons on the outside are Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods. Both are coming off down seasons, but are expected to get back to the top of their games with Stafford in the mix. Kupp and Woods both came to the Rams in 2017, and are separated by about 500 yards in their Los Angeles careers.

WynnBET expects their battle for the leading receiver to be close again this season. Both receivers have +4000 odds to lead the league in receiving.

In 2020, Kupp had 124 targets, 92 receptions and 974 yards. Woods had 129 targets, 90 receptions and 936 yards. Their stats from last season are nearly identical, but I think Kupp separates himself this year.

One of the main reasons I’m going to take Kupp to have more receiving yards than Woods is because of the way Woods is used in the offense. Woods can line up anywhere, but is also used in the run game. Woods is such a versatile player that he can be used in many different ways, which may affect his receiving numbers.

Woods’ receiving yards have also decreased each of the last three seasons. While Kupp has been slightly inconsistent, he suffered an ACL injury in 2018 and had his season cut short. Kupp also has a higher catch percentage than Woods. With both of them having the close to the same amount of targets, catch percentage makes a difference.

It will be interesting to see who becomes Stafford’s favorite receiver, but right now, I’m betting that the Kupp-Stafford connection will be the best one on the team.
