Could a Dark Horse Win the Heisman after Favorites Struggle on Saturday?
By Ben Heisler
The Michigan Wolverines could potentially hand Ohio State another loss this December.
It's not likely, but following Michigan's 42-27 victory in "The Game," giving the Wolverines a victory in the Big Ten East, a new dark horse Heisman Trophy candidate emerged in senior defensive end Aidan Hutchinson.
The Plymouth, MI native racked up three sacks of Ohio State quarterback and current Heisman favorite C.J. Stroud in the Wolverine's victory. The three quarterback takedowns put him into the history books, giving him the all-time record for most sacks in a season.
While Hutchinson does not currently have odds available at WynnBET, it would be surprising not to see his name in the mix soon given the high profile nature of the win as well as the record that he now holds.
Stroud entered the final week of the bulk of college football's regular season as the top play at WynnBET to walk away with the hardware. Stroud was -350 to win it all, followed by Alabama's Bryce Young (+260).
Young delivered a crucial pass to Ja'Corey Brooks with less than 30 seconds to go to get the Crimson Tide their first touchdown of the game to tie the game and send it into overtime. Alabama went on to stun Auburn (+800 moneyline) 24-22 in 4 OT.
Michigan plays either Iowa in the Big Ten Championship game next week from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis at 8:00 pm ET. The Wisconsin Badgers could not hang on against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, giving the Hawkeyes a shot at the conference championship.
