The Dallas Cowboys season on hanging on by threads after one game. An embarrassing 19-3 home loss against the Bucs to open the season is only half the story. The other is the injury to quarterback Dak Prescott, which sent the Cowboys futures betting market into a tailspin.

With Prescott reportedly undergoing surgery on his right thumb, which is expected to keep him out for 6-8 weeks, the Cowboys have dropped all the way from +2000 to win the Super Bowl to +4500 on FanDuel Sportsbook. They're also +2600 to win the NFC, just ahead of the Commanders (+2700) and Giants (+3400), who surprisingly won their season openers.

This is a massive change from the preseason. At one point, the Cowboys were the outright favorites to win the NFC East. Those odds came back and the Eagles were the favorites heading into Week 1. Those are currently off the board, but one would expect the Cowboys to be long shots to win their division when they come back online.

Cooper Rush is the Cowboys backup QB and the 28-year-old journeyman has a grand total of 63 passing attempts in his career. He'll likely start Week 2, but the Cowboys will certainly be in the market for another QB to hold down the fort while Prescott is out. But, as one might expect at this time of the year, the free-agent QB market is thin and anyone Dallas brings in will be a huge drop from Prescott.

Making matters worse, the Cowboys face a gauntlet of tough teams during Prescott's expected absence. They take on a motivated Bengals coming off a loss in Week 2 followed by the Giants, Commanders, Rams, Eagles and Lions. After that six-week period, they have the Bears and Cowboys.

With the way this team looked in Week 1, even when Prescott was in the game, the Cowboys will likely only be favorites in two or maybe three of those matchups. Point is, they're not expected to win many games with Dak. There are currently no odds up for their game against the Bengals.

It's going to be a rough few weeks for Dallas and it's already a rough day for anyone with a futures bet on the Cowboys. Things could get even worse from here. For now, it's wait and see what Dallas does, but don't expect any move to happen in the markets other than a continued downward spiral of their odds.
