The Dallas Cowboys improved to 4-1 on the season defeating their NFC East rival New York Giants in Week 5, 44-20.

The Giants had a stroke of bad luck in this one, as starting quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Saquon Barkley left the game due to injuries. In reserve, quarterback Mike Glennon and running back Devontae Booker couldn’t quite fill the shoes of their depth chart leaders in the loss.

The New England Patriots had a narrow victory over the lowly Houston Texans last week, winning 25-22 on a late 21-yard field goal by kicker Nick Folk. It wasn’t a pretty win for Bill Belichick and company, but the Patriots improved to 2-3 on the year.

New England allowed Texans’ rookie quarterback Davis Mills to complete 21 of his 29 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns in the win, so the Patriots will have to fix any shortcomings in their passing defense before taking on Dak Prescott in Week 6.

Cowboys vs. Patriots Prediction and Pick

New England’s defense has been solid for most of the season, but last week’s showing against the Texans was a little concerning. Davis Mills had some big numbers, but he did have a 67-yard touchdown pass to Chris Moore that inflated his numbers a bit. It wasn’t great for the Patriots defense, but I will give them a pass in this one.

New England’s defense is still averaging just 224.2 passing yards against (sixth in the NFL), and 18.4 point per game against (fifth in the NFL).

The Cowboys offense is explosive at times, with playmakers peppered throughout the offense, but I think the Patriots defense can rebound at home.

And with Dallas’ defense allowing 327.6 passing yards per game (31st in the NFL), I like Mac Jones’ ability to keep his team in this one.

I’m taking New England at +3.5 on the spread and I’ll take the over 48, too.
