Two NL Central rivals will lock horns this afternoon at American Family Field when the Milwaukee Brewers host the Chicago Cubs. This is game two of a three-game series for the rivals with the Brewers crushing Chicago 11-1 in Friday’s opener.

It was just more of the same for the Cubs who, despite some stellar numbers at the plate, continue to lose regularly. Chicago is now 8-12 and third in a weak NL Central. They have lost eight of their last ten games and I see no end in sight.

The Brewers, on the other hand, are 14-7 and lead the NL Central by two games over the Cardinals. Milwaukee has put together a nice four-game winning streak and is 10-2 in its last 12 games.

Cubs vs. Brewers Prediction and Pick

Southpaw Eric Lauer gets the start for Milwaukee as they look to secure a win in this weekend series. Lauer has impressed me after a shaky first start against the Orioles. He pitched six scoreless innings against a dangerous Phillies lineup on Sunday. Lauer struck out 13 Phils and walked just one. His ERA now sits at 2.20 with a WHIP of 1.04.

The Cubs, meanwhile, are going to keep their fingers crossed that Justin Steele can break his two-game losing streak. Steele is having the opposite season as Lauer right now. He started off great with a five-inning shutout of Milwaukee. But, since then, he has given up nine earned runs in his last 11 innings. Not terrible, but not great either. While Lauer shut down a potent Phillies offense last week, Steele got beat up by the Pirates. He surrendered three earned runs in three innings while walking four and striking out two.

After last night’s offensive explosion, I think the Brewers are in a good spot to repeat that success.

Pick: Brewers -1.5 (+120)
