The Los Angeles Dodgers host the Chicago Cubs in the finale of their four-game weekend series.

The Dodgers are speeding towards a sweep after dominating the first three games of this series so far. LA is on a six-game winning streak and has lost just once in its last 11 games. This is one of the biggest mismatches of the day both at the plate and on the mound.

Cubs vs. Dodgers Prediction and Pick

I have a soft rule that I don’t bet on teams when their starting pitcher is making their first appearance back from injury. As if I needed more of a reason to fade the Cubs today against L.A., Drew Smyly is making his return from an oblique issue.

Smyly hasn’t pitched since May 30 against the Brewers and I expect a lot of rust to shake off. He wasn’t exactly setting the world on fire before he got injured with a 2-5 record, 3.80 ERA, and 1.27 WHIP. He posted a 4.63 ERA in his previous five starts and looked like a guy pitching at less than 100%.

Another concern I have is that Smyly was posting these rough numbers against a lot of very bad teams. In his nine starts this year, he faced the Pirates three times along with one-off games against the Reds, Rockies, and Diamondbacks. In an odd twist, he actually had a decent start against LA in May. But, the bullpen collapsed and Chicago lost 7-0.

Let’s be real here. The Dodgers are on a six-game winning streak and 10-1 in their last 11 games. They are 3-0 so far in this series and, with Julio Urías on the mound, I think we can expect L.A. to secure a sweep at home today.

Pick: Dodgers -1.5 (-150)
