The New York Mets regained control of the NL East over the weekend and now look to further their claim against the rebuilding Chicago Cubs.

Chris Bassitt has been the unsung hero of this Mets rotation that has battled injuries throughout the year. The veteran has put together a strong campaign for the first place club, posting a 3.24 ERA and 13-7 record. He faces off against rookie Javier Assad of the Cubs.

Where is the betting value in this matchup with the Mets sitting as massive favorites? We got you covered below with odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook:

Cubs vs. Mets Prediction and Pick

With the Mets north of -300, it's tough to find betting value on the New York side, so I'll look to the total. Assad has been rock solid in a handful of starts with the Cubs, posting two shutout starts before the Reds tagged him for four last time out.

However, Assad has showcased decent control and should limit damage against the Mets lineup. New York exploded out of a week long funk against the Marlins over the weekend, but I expect a slow start with Assad toeing the rubber.

Meanwhile, Bassitt should continue his fine form against an underwhelming Chicago offense. He has lowed his ERA from 3.79 to 2.28 since the All-Star break and the Cubs should have little answer for him, hitting .247 as a team since August 28th and striking out on more than 28% of at bats.

I'll bank on a slow start in this one and grab the first five under 4.5 runs.
