The Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies will kick off their second half of the 2022 MLB season on Friday, July 22 at 7:05 p.m. EST.

Chicago will send lefty Justin Steele (3-6, 4.15 ERA) to the mound against Kyle Gibson (5-3, 4.35 ERA). Gibson had a strong season in 2021, but he’s struggled at times in 2022.

The Cubs enter this game off a win, but they had lost nine straight prior to upsetting the New York Mets on Sunday. Does Chicago have enough to play spoiler against a Phillies team battling for a playoff spot?

Here are the odds for this game via DraftKings:

Cubs vs. Phillies Odds, Run Line and Total

Run Line:

  • Cubs +1.5 (-165)
  • Phillies -1.5 (+140)

Moneyline:

  • Cubs: +115
  • Phillies: -135

Total:

  • 9 (Over -115/Under -105)

Cubs vs. Phillies Prediction and Pick

Kyle Gibson went on a rough stretch during June and the beginning of July, but he’s really turned things around in his last two starts.

Gibson tossed seven scoreless innings of two-hit ball against the St. Louis Cardinals, and then he followed that up with a one-run performance in six innings against the Miami Marlins.

That’s going to be a problem for the Cubs, who have struggled offensively as of late, ranking 28th in runs scored and 27th in OPS over the last 15 days.

Steele may have an ERA over 4.00, but his FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) suggests he’s been a lot better, sitting at 3.40.

I think that gives some value to the UNDER, especially since Chicago has gone UNDER nine runs in 10 of its last 11 games.

Lean: UNDER 9 (-105)
